Solinco Confidential

Updated: Apr 24, 2021

Introduction

Solinco's string that has taken years to perfect is finally out! The string of choice for WTA player Sloane Stephens. Let's take a look!

I liked

  • the explosive feeling off the string bed. As mentioned in the intro they made this string to play right in between tour bite and hyper g. I feel that hyper g has a more muted feel and tour bite having a springier feel to it. This one does meet in the middle. It is muted enough to provide a good sensation of control and lively enough to provide power.

  • the higher-end feel compared to tour bite. It has a more solid feel than tour bite does.

I disliked...

  • the accidental power. Now, this is being picky, but I tried this right after hyper g and I was hitting balls long. With Confidential, I felt I had to pull back the power or hit with more rotation to bring it down in the court. I did settle into it, but there is some adjustment period coming off most poly strings on the market.

What player should use this?

This string is for the control placement player who wants to add some mph's to their game allowing them to focus on their control style.

7.9/10 Overall Rating

  • 8/10 Feel

  • 7.5/10 Control

  • 9/10 Power

  • 8/10 Touch

  • 8/10 Spin

  • 7/10 Comfort

  • 7.5/10 Durability

  • 7/10 Tension Maintenance

Similar String

  • Solinco Hyper G - I don't mean to pick a string in the same company, but it feels very close. If you don't like the muted feel of hyper g and are left craving a little more power (at the expense of control) then this string is a must-try.

Last Remarks

Overall, this playtest went really well. I enjoyed this string. I adjusted to the extra power I got. When I finally broke this string, I strung my rackets back up with hyper g and it took me a good 10 minutes to find my range with it again. Confidential is kind of unique in where it sits among the poly family. I did have a bit of soreness in the arm. However, it could have been a workout I did, sleep I got, overuse the day before, etc. So, that is why I didn't list comfort as a dislike, but I do want to mention it.
